In order to avoid any problems that can cause you to restart the installation, make sure to have internet available on the machine where you want to install Blackarch. You can list the available network interfaces with the command ip a. If you want or only have wifi available as an option, you may read the arch wiki to know how to setup a wireless connection.(ie: wifi-menu/netctl) If your keyboard differs from the default one, qwerty us, you can set the keymap corresponding to your language / country. For example, enter the command loadkeys following the 2 letters of your country code. Execute the command blackarch-install to start the Blackarch install script.

Throughout this tutorial, you may want to execute some shell commands while the script is running. You can do it at any time without the need to stop it by simply switching tty's by pressing these keys simultaneously ctrl + alt + f2 (f1 is the default tty where you ran the blackarch-install script (if you did not execute it in another tty...), f2, f3, f4, f5 or f6 will bring a new tty where you can execute any command you may need. This is just a tip in case you didn't know)

If you downloaded the live ISO. If you choose this option you will not need internet during the install process. However, in order to have an updated system, after the installation has finished, once you reach your install environment (after you boot into the fresh install) start a general update using pacman -Syyu .

Now the script will download the latest necessary packages for your system. This will take a little time depending on your internet speed. When the install is finished with this task, you will be asked to set the password of your root account.

You will have the choice to download the VirtualBox guest additions/tools, if you are not interested, press n and hit enter. If you want the Blackarch tools, saying y will download and install more than 1500 tools from the Blackarch repo, you can fetch those later if you want. This is an option that can be skipped.

Running the script automatically adds the BlackArch repo to your vanilla Arch distribution. You can then immediately start downloading pentesting tools of your choice which were previously unavailable on the default Arch Linux installation.

Although you won't be needing to learn or even download a lot of the tools in the repository, there are a few tools you should familiarize yourself with as they will help you improve your security stature and allow you to self-audit your systems.

BlackArch, however, can be a bit bloated, as it contains thousands of different security tools, many of which you will never use or need. Instead of using BlackArch, it is possible to install the BlackArch Linux repositories onto Arch Linux and download only the packages that you need from it.

In this tutorial, we will install the BlackArch Linux repositories onto Arch Linux, and go over using them.PrerequisitesYou will need:(powerTag.Init=window.powerTag.Init[]).push(function()powerAPITag.display("pw_14922"))(powerTag.Init=window.powerTag.Init[]).push(function()powerAPITag.initPowerInstream("pw_14950"););A computer or VM with Arch Linux installedA working Internet connectionInstall BlackArch Repositories on Arch Linux1. Install from the RepositoryYou can install packages from the Blackarch repository either by category or one at a time. To install all the packages in a category with:# pacman -S blackarch-categoryWhere blackarch-category is the category, you want to install. To install packages individually:(powerTag.Init=window.powerTag.Init[]).push(function()powerAPITag.display("pw_15219"))# pacman -S package-nameWhere package-name is the name of the package, you want to install.ConclusionNow you have installed the Blackarch Linux repositories onto your system. You also know how to install them and enable your Arch Linux machine into a powerful penetration testing tool.

On the official download page, there are various download options. Personally, I always prefer to download the ISO from the official website. So you can be sure that you are not downloading some malicious files.

You can find the 2842 tools available in BlackArch listed here. The new ISO images will be helpful for those who wish to deploy BlackArch Linux on new machines without having to download numerous updates from the repository.

The latest BlackArch 2023.04.01 release is available to download from the official website. You can also find installation instructions or learn how to convert an existing Arch Linux installation into a BlackArch installation.

upd wont affect BlackArch mirrors (also no Chaotic-AUR, just plain Arch mirrors). The best way to handle their mirrors is to do it manually, eg. by editing /etc/pacman.d/blackarch-mirrorlist (couldnt verify that its really there, but it should) and commenting the Fosshost mirror.

/etc/pacman.d/blackarch-mirrorlistFailed to execute process '/etc/pacman.d/blackarch-mirrorlist'. Reason:exec: unknown error (errno was 8)The file '/etc/pacman.d/blackarch-mirrorlist' is marked as an executable but could not be run by the operatingsystem.

Although there are a lot of Pentesting operating systems available Black arch seems to be a really good arch based distribution and it contains a ton of tools the one could make use of. I decided to review and make a guide based on black arch linux.

Now before getting started i would like to say that the popular Distributions such as Kali linux, Parrot Security OS, Black box are still an obvious choice for someone that is getting started in Pentesting.

Black Arch is yet another distro based on Arch linux, and people like me who has been using Arch as a primary operating system always have to either install tools manually from AUR (Arch User Repository), Install a Pentesting Distro like kail in a VM or build tools from source. Black arch makes that much simpler in a lot of cases. I wouldnt call it the most stable release, but if your some one that is familiar with linux, this is something that you would like.

Awesome post! I have to say Blackarch linux can be a complete PITA to deploy and get running as well with the init updates and configuration. but once you get through all of that it is a extremely stable distro. Im fairly new to the industry and have been using Linux (starting with Kali) as my daily driver for 2.5 - 3 years now, and even though the installation process took a significant amount of time and the extreme frustration of having to start from scratch numerous times, and research solutions to odd problems. once I finished and had a 100% operable configured system. There was no looking back.

The Gaming edition has the same tweaks and looks as the regular dr460nized edition. It comes preinstalled with a lots of software that a linux gamer might need. Included software: Launchers:Steam, Heroic Games Launcher, itch, Lutris, MinigalaxyWINE, Boxtron, Proton GE custom, DXVK, faudio, vkd3dGOverlay, ReplaySorcery, SteamTinkerLaunch, MangoHud, Gamemode and vkBasalt Tools:CoreCtrl, DisplayCAL, NoiseTorch, OBS Studio, KeyboardVisualizer, OpenRGB, FancontrolGUI and PiperCommunication:Discord, MumbleEmulators: Retroarch (with all cores) Virtualization:Virt-manager (a frontend for QEMU/KVM and libvirt)Games: kde-games and others

The first thing we'll need to do is head over to the Manjaro website to view the available download options. We'll be presented with several desktop environment options. This includes XFCE, KDE, and GNOME.

On Unix-like operating systems, we can use wget to download the ISO by entering the below command into a terminal. Make sure to substitute the proper download link for the one you choose.

Before we begin, I'd like to point out that my below guide is one of several ways of building a BlackArch box. Another method would be to download the BlackArch OVA image. OVA (Open Virtual Appliance) files are often used to distribute pre-configured virtual machines (VMs) of a particular operating system. We can double-click on the BlackArch .ova file to open it in Oracle's VirtualBox and be done with installation.
